O Grupo de Física Teórica e Computacional (GFTC) do Departamento de Física da Universidade Federal de Alagoas (DF-UFAL) foi criado em 1995 reunindo pesquisadores cujo interesse comum é a aplicação de métodos teóricos e computacionais ao estudo das propriedades físicas da matéria condensada.
Atualmente, o grupo conta com seis doutores bastante ativos na graduação e pós-graduação. O grupo apresenta um sólido espírito de corpo evidenciado pela ativa colaboração entre seus membros e mantido por reuniões semanais nas quais seminários são proferidos por professores, visitantes e estudantes.
O GFTC vem produzindo trabalhos de pesquisa de alta qualidade publicados em revistas especializadas e anais de conferências internacionais. Os recursos computacionais são providos pelo DF-UFAL que vem constantemente atualizando sua capacidade computacional. O laboratório de computação científica do DF/UFAL conta atualmente com uma rede de dez estações de trabalho (533 e 600 MHz), rede de micros (350 MHz) e periféricos. A recente recomendação pela CAPES do programa de Doutorado vem consolidar a capacidade do GFTC da UFAL para o desenvolvimento de pesquisa e formação de pessoal especializado em Física da Matéria Condensada.
Propagação de Danos em sistemas magnéticos. Fenômenos críticos dinâmicos e efeitos de superfície.
Transições de fase em sistemas de elétron itinerantes. Transição metal-isolante em sistemas eletrônicos desordenados e cadeias lineares.
Propriedades estruturais de sólidos.
Criticalidade auto-organizável em processos limitados por difusão. Reações em meios desordenados e modelos de evolução.
Transições de fase e fenômenos críticos. Sistemas magnéticos desordenados e com interações competitivas. Interações de longo alcance em sistemas fortemente correlacionados.
Análise, simulação e modelagem de sistemas complexos. Fenômenos biofísicos, sócio-econômicos e fisiológicos.
